Master Watchmaker
Pichler · Frankenmarkt, Austria

Four years of apprenticeship at Pichler in Frankenmarkt, Upper Austria, concluded with the Austrian master craftsman qualification.

Watchmaking is diagnosis under a loupe. A movement has a few hundred parts; when one of them is off by a fraction of a millimetre, the symptom is a watch that gains two minutes a day. The work is to reason from that symptom back to the part, before opening anything, because dismantling a movement twice costs a day.

In 2001 I moved into IT, starting in support at SPAR ICS.

Education

2004 - 2008
DI (FH) - Information Technologies & Systems-Management
Fachhochschule Salzburg - University of Applied Sciences · Salzburg, Austria

Extra-occupational studies, completed while working full-time at SPAR ICS.

The DI (FH) is a diploma degree from the years before Austrian universities of applied sciences moved to bachelor and master programmes. It is the highest academic degree I hold; there is no master’s degree and no doctorate.

Thesis: “Nachhaltige IT im Rechenzentrum”, a model for measuring efficiency in the data centre.
